Math Lab: In this two-semester course for early elementary students, we will experience math skills and concepts through the use of manipulatives.  Students will be exposed to aspects of math so they can see that math can be fun and useful to many areas of life. Math skills will be covered in a spiral approach form: number concepts, shapes, linear and capacity measurement, place value, time, money, addition and subtraction strategies, fractions, etc.  This class is designed to complement the grade level Math curriculum you will be teaching at home.

Instrumental Ensemble: In this two-semester course, will concentrate on reading music, playing on pitch, and playing with correct timing.  The ensemble will then perform in conjunction with the elementary choir performance. We often play arrangements of familiar classical themes, hymns, Gospel songs, and folk music. Students are required to attend the end-of-semester performance which is generally scheduled for the final week of each semester. The specific date is scheduled by the beginning of each semester.

Zoology I: This two-semester course is for early to mid-level readers. We will work from book 1 (Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day) of the Apologia Zoology series. Your student will be in awe of God's amazing creation as they learn of His amazing designs and purposes revealed in His flying creatures!! Successful students will be reading weekly, either independently or with a parent, and will also have oral reports to present to the class. Quizzes and tests will be grade-appropriate and can be accommodated to the needs of various reading levels. A favorite project/event for this class each semester is the creation and display of dioramas at our semester Student Showcase Night!!

Jr. High Math: This two-semester course will cover arithmetic basics, rational numbers, decimals, percents, measuring length, area, and volume, simple algebraic equations, and integers.  After this, we will move on to longer algebraic equations, combining like terms, rational expressions, relations, functions, and graphing.

Famous Americans: In this two semester course, students will be introduced to the lives and deeds of many extraordinary people from our American history. We will learn how God used them to leave a legacy for us today. Individuals include Benjamin Franklin, Daniel Boone, and Laura Ingalls Wilder to name just a few. Class will often include hands-on activities. Abeka’s Our American Heritage is the main source for the class.

Elementary Choir: In this two-semester course, we will be learning themed or seasonal music from a variety of genres for performance each semester. We focus on vocal technique, especially learning how to control pitch and dynamics. Junior High Art - Pencil Techniques: In this two-semester course for grades 6 - 8, we will explore the techniques that are used for graphic pencils, charcoal, and colored pencils. In the process of the class, we will also go into the shape of things and how to copy well pictures and real life. All these skills are to help us use the tools God has given us and also recognize the beauty in what God has made. There will be homework in this class at least biweekly.

Knitting/Crocheting for grades 3 - 12: In this two-semester class, students will be guided in learning the skills of knitting and/or crocheting. Beginning students will start with the skills of yarn hold and basic stitches.  Each student will progress at his/her own rate through instruction and skill appropriate projects.  Students will also learn to read and follow patterns.  All materials will be provided to get started. The students may need to purchase yarn, hooks/needles, and notions for later projects. Knit/crochet class is for students in grades 3-12.

Art K-2 (ages 4 - 8) - Story Art: In this two-semester course, we will learn new ways to draw and color by - first, listening and looking at a story book each week, which will - second, show us style and communication. The fun story books teach us there are many different ways to draw and many ways to color. This class will be a fun way to develop art skills in your young children and give them an appreciation for storybook illustrations.

STEAM Story Time: In this two-semester course, story time is integrated with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills will also be a focus through hands-on activities, projects, and STEAM Challenges.

Beginning Spanish for grades 3-5: This two-semester class for grades 3 - 5 will be a fun introduction to the Spanish language using worksheets, Spanish/bilingual book readings, games, and flashcards to engage students in learning and memorizing vocabulary.  Basic conversation skills and a Bible verse will also be taught and practiced in class and encouraged to be practiced outside of class.

Creative Writing 3-5: We are all born with a story in our mouth, aren't we? Using the Excellence in Writing program, this two-semester class is designed to give students an opportunity to spread their imaginative wings while learning techniques to improve their writing skills.  Truly fun for both the willing and reluctant writer!

Junior High Literature: In this two-semester course for Junior High students, we will read through all seven books of C.S. Lewis’ outstanding children’s classic, The Chronicles of Narnia.  The student will read approximately four chapters a week (approximately 40-50 pages), but it is not difficult reading. Class time will include reader’s theater, thoughtful discussions of ideas, and occasional quizzes and short essays, along with memorization of specific literary terms and of one Psalm. This class should help your student learn to delight in quality literature and recognize good moral tone, as well as introduce your student to the giant literary figure of C.S. Lewis.

  • Prerequisite: mid-level reading ability and a willing attitude to learn

  • Text: The entire set of The Chronicles of Narnia. First semester we will read The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of The Dawn Treader. In the last semester, we will read the last four books.

Around the World: Each week in this two-semester class, the class will "journey" to another country to learn about the history and culture which defines it as a country. We will also explore a little about the religious culture of each country and how God is working there today.

Beginning Sign Language: In this two-semester class, we will learn many signs. By the end of the school year, students should be able to have a brief conversation using sign language. We will discuss why the students want to learn sign language and what they can do with that knowledge. We will also discuss deaf culture and why understanding deaf culture is an important part of learning sign language. There will be quizzes and homework.

Elementary Literature: Each week in this two-semester class, we will explore a chapter from Kenneth Grahame’s delightful classic, The Wind in The Willows, by utilizing Reader’s theater, occasional skits, and games, and 5-minute writings and quizzes. We will also memorize Psalm 121 and some literary terms in class.

Creative Writing, 6-8: In this two semester class, join us as we explore and share our creativity through composition.  Using the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) curriculum as a base, students engage in various fun projects which exercise their imaginations while they learn structure and style. Tales, mysteries, limericks, rhyme - one never knows what we may be doing next!  So, grab your favorite writing instrument, and come along for some writing fun!

Beginning Spanish for grades 6 - 8: In this two-semester class, middle schoolers will learn basic Spanish vocabulary and writing/speaking skills in order to prepare them for Spanish 1 or to simply gain an understanding of the Spanish language. (This class will build upon and review vocabulary and conversation skills learned in Beginning Spanish 3-5, but the 3-5 class is NOT required as a prerequisite to Beginning Spanish 6-8. Each class may be taken individually or sequentially.)

New Testament Bible Times History for Kids: What was it like to live where Jesus lived? What did houses and landscapes look like? What would it be like to be a fly on the wall, so to speak, at the Sermon on the Mount? History can be fun! In this two semester class, we will learn about the life and times of Jesus. We will be studying Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. We will be using Drive Through History to go to the places where Jesus walked and talked. History will come alive!! We will learn what it was like to live among the Jewish people during Roman rule and when Jesus was born and lived on earth. We will discover how archaeological and historical evidence backs up what is written in the Bible. Toward the end of the second semester, we will be covering Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection.

The American Founding: In this two-semester class, students will be taught how America came into being. In the first semester, students will learn about the reasons for the American Revolution as well as about the conflict itself. The war will be examined on three fronts: the home front, the battle front, and the political front. During the second semester, students will learn more about the aftermath of the war and how the American government was established. In this portion of the class, we will dive more into the formation of the Constitution, political parties, and the ideologies of the Founding Fathers themselves. In both semesters, students will be encouraged to think through the subjects discussed based off of the facts presented by the instructor, sources from the era, and any research they conduct themselves. There will be a variety of projects including papers and a presentation.

Jr. High General Science: In this two-semester course, we will look at two major theories about the origin of the earth - catastrophism and uniformitarianism.  That alone should pique your curiosity!  We will study the scientific method and documentation of scientific results before moving into introductory sections of biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and astronomy. Selected labs will be performed during regular class times.

Drama (Grades 4 - 12): During this two-semester course, students will learn elements of drama including developing our voices, understanding the stage and stage presence, portraying emotions with our facial expressions and body movements, and “becoming” a character.  We will use theatrical games to help us learn about acting.  We will also turn to Scripture weekly as we learn to act (and do everything else) for the glory of God.  Students should come each week ready to participate and full of energy.

  • Homework: Students will need to work on memorizing their parts for the plays.  They may also need to put together some minor items for costumes and props.

  • Other: Each student will be required to lead a devotion at the beginning of at least one class period.  The devotion should include reading a Bible passage and an explanation of why they love that passage. The student will then lead the class in prayer.

Fall Semester Details: During our fall semester we will be working toward our final presentation of an adaptation of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  Each student will have a role in this play and will be expected to memorize their lines.  Students will be required to attend any dress rehearsals that we have outside class time and also participate in the final performance.  We will not be performing with the elementary choir this semester.

Fall performance/rehearsal dates:

  • Dress Rehearsal - Friday, November 17 at 9:30am to 11:30am

  • Performance - Friday, November 17 at 7pm.

  • There may be additional practices required outside of class time, and, if so, TBA. 


Spring Semester Details: During our spring semester, we will be working toward our final presentation.  The presentation will be a play, but is still TBA.  Dates of rehearsal/performance are TBA.


Beginning Sewing: In this two-semester sewing class, we will begin with hand sewing and will continue into machine sewing projects. This class is open to a total of 6 students - 2nd grade through 8th grade.

    • Students will need to have a sewing box in which to keep their projects, a good pair of fabric scissors, a seam ripper, a fabric marker, and pins. Please bring these items to class every week, including week 1.

Advanced Chamber Ensemble: In this two-semester class, we will learn a combination of standard chamber music and hymn arrangements to perform in conjunction with the chorale performance. Material is selected seasonally or topically. Students are required to attend the end-of-semester performance which generally is scheduled the last week of each semester. We announce the specific dates by the beginning of each semester.

  • Two 12-week semesters plus a dress rehearsal (session 13) and a performance (session 14). Class meets one day a week.

  • Prerequisite: Students must be able to play an orchestral instrument, be able to read music, and play at least at an advanced beginner level (approx. Suzuki, level 3).

WW1/WW2: In this two-semester class, students will be taught the basics of both World War I and World War II. In the first semester, students will learn the reasons for the lead-up to the conflict of WWI, In addition to the goals of the major powers. The war will be studied from three perspectives: the home front, political fronts, and the war front. Additionally, students will learn how and why the victorious powers were able to achieve victory but failed to achieve a successful peace via the Treaty of Versailles and the League of Nations. The second semester will focus on World War II, it's causes, and how it impacted the world. As with the first war, we will cover this war on three fronts: home, political, and battlefield. We will also discuss the lasting impacts the war had.
