RE: Transcript Charge

Dear CHESS Families,

Colorado Heritage Education School System has been serving the needs of home schooling families in the Northern Colorado area for over 27 years. We are thankful for God’s faithfulness in continuing to uphold CHESS. We are also thankful for the commitment, time, and energy you have invested in CHESS.

As we continue to serve the families who use our transcript service, the CHESS Board needs to inform you of various factors that are making it necessary for CHESS to raise the transcript fee. The increase in the cost of postage and the unreliability of the United States Postal Service recently prompted us to begin sending many transcripts electronically via email. Although sending transcripts electronically is much easier and more reliable, it presented the issue of transcript authenticity.

To solve the issues of mail reliability and authenticity, CHESS took the following measures: For those families who requested that transcripts be mailed to them via USPS, we began using the USPS certified mail service at a cost to CHESS of $15. For those families who requested digital copies, CHESS signed the digital transcripts with authentications from Adobe at a cost to CHESS of $10. CHESS did not pass these extra costs on to the families who were requesting transcripts as we were hoping the costs would go back down.  This has not happened, and the CHESS Board found that it was not prudent for CHESS to continue shouldering these extra expenses. Therefore, effective immediately, the costs for official transcripts will be as follows: $10 for an electronic copy, and $15 for a hard copy that is mailed via USPS certified mail. Unofficial transcripts (needed for sports and other situations) will be available through the Parent Portal on the website to those families/students that have requested a family transcript and to Diploma Program students.

If you need an official transcript sent to a school or university, please send an email to the CHESS office at with the following information:

·       Receiving school’s name
·       Address (or email) to which the transcript needs to be sent to
·       Which student(s) transcript is to be sent
·       Any additional information that will assist in processing the request is gratefully appreciated.

It has been the desire of the CHESS Board and office staff to avoid passing these costs on to our CHESS families, but we find it unavoidable. The CHESS Board, office staff, teachers and volunteers consider it a blessing to continue to serve the home schooling needs of you and your children. We thank you for your continued support of CHESS.

Please call us if you have any questions or thoughts. We always want to hear how we can grow in our service you.
